Rally your friends for some proper fun in a pristine location so unique and remote that you need to see it to believe it. Buttonquail is a private nature reserve set deep in the back hills of the Elgin Valley. It borders and forms part of the Koegelberg Biosphere, a world natural heritage site voted as one of the most biodiverse fauna and flora places on our planet, worth preserving we believe…

Driving through the vineyards and apple orchards on meandering gravel roads you quickly get the sense of leaving your worries behind. Arriving at Elgin River Lodge on the banks of the Palmiet River to its privacy and isolation is something hard to imagine but unbelievably refreshing when you realise where you are, only an hour out of Cape Town!

From start to finish you will be surprised with all that this getaway in nature offers. From marked out walks in abundant nature to a barge cruise on the Arrieskraal Dam, wine tastings at some of South Africa’s finest wineries with the exceptional people that make and own these wines to lazy lounging and massages by the river. Throw in evening bonfire side banter and exceptional food at every sitting this is truly an African Wilderness retreat on a different level.

Elgin River Lodge is maintained and managed by our hospitality business, The Lekka Group. The property spans two and a half kilometers of the Palmiet River on the Arieskraal Dam. It is built with peace and tranquility in mind and you get that feeling on arrival. It’s hard to explain the vibe, but with the right perspective it’s bound to touch your soul. The sleeping arrangements consist of a number of bedrooms, cabins and even tents if need be. Except for the tents there are en-suite shower and toilets, the villa has a slightly different setup with 4 bedrooms downstairs and a loft style dorm.

There are few better ways to spend time with friends in a private location like Elgin River Lodge and the expansive space and beauty of Buttonquail Nature Reserve. With very limited cell phone reception, you have little choice but to talk and laugh nonstop. Take your mates to a place you won’t believe exists and experience this paradise for yourselves.

Buttonquail Trails caters for groups of varying sizes and we organise it all. All you need to bring along is a cooler box of your favourite refreshments, and maybe not if you want to be spoilt. Throw in a a soul full of energy and you are in paradise. Put it in the planner and let’s make it happen.
